WASHINGTON COUNTY DEMOCRATS’ ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN 2023
Goals: 1. Involve more young people
1. Established Young College Democrats at Utah Tech University as an active club with over 50 members.
2. Established support for SURF, Students United for Reproductive Rights Foundation, a part of Planned Parenthood of Utah.
3. Co-sponsored High School Training on our political process along with the Republican party. On January 6, 2024, students participate in a non-partisan mock caucus/convention experience to learn how Utah’s system works from the grass roots (“Boot Camp”).
2. Support Democratic candidates
4. Sponsored two women candidates, Marilyn Rigby and Katheryne Knight, who ran in St George’s city council races. We helped with their campaign literature, websites, and yard signs.
5. Served on Southern Utah Debate Commission sponsored by Vince Brown, Director of the Utah Tech Institute of Politics, and the whole team at St George Chamber of Commerce by supplying the issue debate questions and the moderator.
6. Supported Senator Kathleen Riebe for CD2 with four meet n greet fundraisers and a float in the Homecoming Parade at Utah Tech sponsored by the Young College Dems.
7. Donated to Davina Smith’s campaign for San Jaun County House race
3. Become more visible in the community
8. Attended Farmer’s Market in Worthen Park on Saturdays to register new voters.
9. Hosted the Pride of Southern Utah booth at Vernon Worthen Park Pride Festival.
10. Sponsored two entries in the Fourth of July Parade in St George
11. Joined Sandy Hook Promise advocacy to support children’s safety through gun control.
12. Sponsored the Washington County Fair Children’s Rodeo in Hurricane, Utah
13. We support Conserve Southwest Utah in protecting our public lands.
